I am staying at a resort called Yoga Oasis for four weeks while I search for jobs and a place to live. While here I am a part of the work exchange program, so I work 14 hours a week doing things like cleaning, cooking, sometimes teaching yoga (!!!) I flew all day Wednesday and Star from Yoga Oasis (stereotype, much?) picked me up when I got in. I got some food from a local vegetarian health food shop and then we drove to the resort. I am close to the eastern tip of Hawaii, otherwise known as the Big Island.
While here I'm staying in a tentalow, which is a big tent with furniture and wooden floors. I get free run of the kitchen, as long as no one else has put their name on the food, and have access to their phone and wifi, plus it turns out AT&T is the only service which works here, so my cell phone works, too. Cool.
I have some pictures for everyone, but it was getting dark so I had to stop before I was ready. I'll get more in a bit.
Me at Logan at 5:30am, waiting to board. We woke up at 3 and Todd drove me to the airport...
Me at Salt Lake City in front of my plane... I thought "Smile!" but my face failed to respond.
So I tried again:
In Honolulu! Been awake for way too many hours...
They have different bottled water - no Dasani or Aquafina, just this:
The airport at Honolulu is very pretty. There's this massive enclosed courtyard with tropical plants and airport restaurant seating, and I was way too spaced out to think of taking a picture. But I did get a picture of the wall paneling. The whole wall in the waiting area was like this. So different from home!
We took off at sunset, and I watched the sun go down while en route from Honolulu to Hilo. It looked like a rainbow had draped itself over the horizon. The edge of the whole world was bright lava red, then a layer of orange, then yellow, bright green, light light blue, and midnight black all the way up. It was incredible! My camera refused to capture it, so it is one sight which will have to live in memory only.
Unlike my tentalow, which you may see in full color:
And I took a picture of me inside the mosquito netting. I always thought of them as princess netting, and I always wanted one!
So, that's all the pictures for now. I'll take more of the main house, the fruit trees, the chickens that are everywhere, and the island as I explore.
Love to you all! Post comments and let me know you're still there while I'm here.
The order of the pictures is messed up... oh well.
